2/ Selling and promoting someone else's products.

Selling or promoting other peoples products and services through your web site is commonly referred to as Rreferral or Affiliate marketing and it is big business. This is mainly because people who have no products of their own can still make huge money without the hassle of having to process orders, pack and post products, handle inventory or of course, manufacture any goods. All you need for an affiliate marketing business is a web site and since you are selling someone else products, you have almost an unlimited choice and number of products to sell. Your marketing options and potential income is vastly larger than if you were just selling your own personal range of products or services.

So what is 'Affiliate Marketing'?

Brief description goes something like this: You have a website of your own on any chosen subject that links and directs people who visit your website to another web site that sells a particular product. If they make a purchase at that website, you get paid a commission or referral fee from the seller of the product.

As a web site owner, you are rewarded (paid) for sending customers to that company. You basically do their advertising in exchange for a commission on the sales.

These pay-per-sale or pay-per-lead programs are usually remarkably easy to join, after all, the more people advertising for them, the more they sell. After signing up to their affiliate program, you place a link from your web site or newsletter or inside your E-book to the vendor's web site. When someone clicks on your link and then buys a product or service from that business, you earn a commission. Obviously the more people your send to their the site, the more people that are likely to make a purchase and the more you are likely to earn. So successful traffic generation is again key to your success.

The flip side of the coin is if you are the one trying to sell a product. In this case, you either set up your own affiliate program or join an affiliate network such as Clickbank or Commission Junction or Clixgalore and make your site details, products and links available for 'affiliates' to link to your site and recommend your product(s). When you make a sale on your site, you pay a % commission to the referring website (if there was one).
